Hey Posse, what’s up? It’s Alex.
Coming at you this week with a LONG OVERDUE updated niche list.
My last article like this was way back in 2020…
And while there are a few niches that made both lists…
There have been some pretty massive and notable changes in the copywriting industry over the last few years.
So if you’re looking to learn the latest in copywriting, marketing & messaging…
So you can stay relevant and GET PAID to write…
Make sure you subscribe to my newsletter to be learn when my next tutorial goes out.
Alright, so the first things first – What the heck is a niche? Why does it matter? Do you need one? And how can you pick the right niche for YOU?
Let’s get into it…
What Is A Writing Niche?
A copywriting niche is a specific industry – or market – that you specialize in writing for. Almost anything you think of can be a niche.
- Makeup…
- Parenting…
- Animal rescues…
- Sustainable fashion…
- Self-development…
And the list goes on and on.
Basically – your niche is your specialty.
You can be as wide or as specific with it as you want…
Because the thing about niches is that you can continue to get more and more specific.
For example…
The self-development niche is massive.
WITHIN that niche there are hundreds of more specific sub-niches like…
- Meditation
- Wellness retreats
- Dating & relationships
- Time management
- Yoga
And within THOSE sub-niches are even more specific niches, like:
- Yoga for pregnancy
- Yoga for kids
- Kundalini yoga
- Beginner yoga
- Arial yoga
You get the point.
Now, of course, you don’t have to get ultra-specific when selecting your niche.
In the beginning, it’s generally best to start broad…
And then over time, you’ll probably find yourself gravitating towards an even more specific niche.
But some people never do – and that’s okay too.
Which brings me to the #1 question every new copywriter wants to know…
“Do I really NEED a niche?”
Do I Need A Niche To Be A Copywriter?
The short answer is no – you don’t *have* to niche down. But it’s HIGHLY recommended that you do. Niching down is the first step towards becoming a high-paid copywriter.
Why?
Well, think about it for a minute…
Businesses don’t want to hire a “jack of all trades” copywriter.
They want to hire someone who KNOWS their market…
Someone who has experience writing to the very specific desires, fears, and objections of their specific audience.
I hate to break it to you, but…
Different audiences have different things driving them and motivating them to buy.
There is NO “one-size-fits-all” approach to marketing.
And just because you’re a good writer who knows how to make things sound good and persuasive…
This does not mean that the same messaging, the same tactics, or even the same forms of marketing will work for ALL audiences.
It just doesn’t.
And that is why the research phase of writing is the most important part of the entire writing process.
When you niche down…
You get REALLY GOOD at writing for one specific audience.
This gives you more authority and credibility…
Makes businesses way more likely to hire you.
AND…
Allows you to charge more for your services.
As they say – the riches are in the niches.
So…
How do you know which niche is right for you?
How To Pick The Right Niche
Well, it all comes down to trial and error.
When you’re first beginning your copywriting career, it’s totally fine to NOT niche down immediately.
Take some time to research, test out different niches, and see what you ENJOY the most.
You definitely don’t want to select a niche just because you saw it on a list of the highest-paid copywriting niches.
Lists like these are great for getting your gears turning…
But it doesn’t mean that if what you’re interested in ISN’T on this list, then you’re screwed and won’t make any money as a copywriter…
The most important thing is to select a niche that you’re EXCITED about.
Something you won’t get tired of writing for over and over and over… and over again.
I’m a big believer that ANY niche can be profitable.
Especially as you continue to hone your skills and get better and better at what you do.
And now…
Let’s countdown the highest-paying copywriting niches of 2024…
Highest Paying Writing Niches in 2024
- Artificial Intelligence
- Alternative Health & Wellness
- eCommerce Brands
- Personal Wealth & Finance
- Fitness Brands
#1 – Artificial Intelligence
Yup – you guessed it. This is by far the biggest change I’ve seen in the copywriting industry over the past 5 years.
Artificial Intelligence has been around for decades…
But it’s really just in the last 5 years or so that it has TAKEN OFF.
The global AI market size is projected to reach 407 billion dollars by 2027.
And while some copywriters were freaking out about the possibility that AI would “replace” them or put them out of work…
That couldn’t be further from what’s happening.
Sure, AI can do some pretty awesome stuff – but businesses and brands still need someone who knows “how to work it”.
- What prompts to input for best results…
- How to interrupt and fact-check the output…
- And most importantly – how to tweak the output to be useful for the client.
When AI tools like ChatGPT and Jasper.AI came in hot on the scene, I predicted that this would be a HUGE opportunity for copywriters to specialize in and offer as a service…
And what do you know?
That’s exactly what we’re seeing.
Fiverr even has an entire category dedicated to businesses looking to hire writers to help with AI content.
Alright, next up…
#2 – Alternative Health & Wellness
This is a pretty broad niche – and one that can be extremely lucrative.
Alternative health includes anything that would not be considered “mainstream” health.
We’re talking about anything from supplements…
- CBD…
- Micro-dosing & psyhcedelics…
- Acupuncture…
- Essential oils and herbal medicine…
Even though this niche is considered “not mainstream”…
It’s becoming increasingly popular as governments and activists around the globe push to bring more education, legislation, and awareness to these alternative health practices.
It’s an industry that’s projected to grow rapidly over the next several years – and reach USD 913.82 billion by 2032.
So if you’re into alternative health & wellness, this is a great niche to jump into right now!
Alright, next up…
#3 – eCommerce Brands
Alright, here’s another MASSIVE niche that’s growing and will continue to get even bigger.
eCommerce refers to any business that sells products or services online.
And while it’s a niche that has been growing steadily for years…
It REALLY boomed during the Global Pandemic of 2019.
When so many businesses were forced to close their brick-and-mortar stores, they had to transition to online selling if they wanted to keep their business open.
This meant restaurants that didn’t offer delivery services before, started offering them…
Gyms got creative with offering online classes…
Even grocery shopping changed! Online grocery ordering & delivery wasn’t really a thing before the Pandemic…
But now, that’s how nearly 50% of Americans prefer to get their groceries.
Shopify valued the global eCommerce market at an expected $6.3 trillion for 2023.
And it’s projected to continue to grow more and more into the future.
Alright, next up…
#4 – Personal Wealth & Finance
People will ALWAYS want to know about money.
We want to know how to make more of it…
We want to know how to get out of debt…
We want to know how to budget, how to invest, how to spend…
And most importantly – we want to know how to quit our jobs and retire early – am I right?!
But for as much as people LOVE money…
The majority of us feel undereducated and overwhelmed when it comes to personal finance and wealth management…
According to a survey conducted by NEFE and AmeriSpeak…
- 88% of Americans believe financial education should be mandatory in high school.
- 80% said they wish they were required to take a semester- or year-long financial education course during high school.
- And 75% said that spending and budgeting is the most important financial education topic to teach for personal finance education…
- Followed by managing credit (55%)…
- Saving (49%)…
- And earning income (47%).
This means there is a HUGE market of people who want to learn how to better manage, save, and earn their money.
As a copywriter, you could write for investing, insurance, retirement planning, financial independence, and so much more!
If you’re passionate about financial planning, love to learn about these topics, and have a knack of making complex things sound simple…
This could be the right niche for you!
Alright, last up on the list…
5 – Coaching
I don’t know about you, but it seems like every 3rd person I follow on Instagram is offering coaching services of some kind…
- Business Coaching…
- Life Coaching…
- Health Coaching…
- Relationship Coaching…
And on and on…
It’s not just a figment of my (or your) imagination…
The coaching industry is growing – and fast!
According to PwC, the coaching industry market was ranked as the second-fastest growing global sector in 2022…
Its revenue has increased a MASSIVE 62% since 2019…
And the number of certified coach practitioners has increased by 54% over the past 5 years…
It’s estimated that there are over 100,000 certified coaches worldwide…
And I’d actually guess a lot more.
That’s A LOT of potential clients you could be writing copy for…
I mean, come on – just scroll your Instagram for 5 seconds and I guarantee you’ll find one.
But if Instagram isn’t your thing…
