Thatās right, weāre talking about A.I.
Now let me just start off by saying that ā I think A.I. is pretty awesome. Iāve seen it do some incredibly mind-blowing things. But with that saidā¦
Is it a magic wand for creating high-converting copy? No.
A.I. can be a pretty amazing shortcut in the copywriting process. I’ll admit it, I used ChatGPT and was pretty impressed!
But you have to already know what youāre doing in order to produce high-quality results. Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again ā a shortcut is only a shortcut if you know WHERE you are going.Ā
You need to have a solid understanding of foundational marketing principles in order toā¦
- A) Know how to input the right prompts to get useful outputā¦
- B) Be able to make sense of that output and discern whatās good, whatās bad, whatās persuasive, relevant, or even accurate.
- C) And, most importantly, know what to even do with it!
How can it actually be used in your marketing to garner effective results? Or is this awesome āshortcutā shooting you in the foot and costing you customers?
So, please, if youāre a copywriter who has been in the business for yearsā¦
And you have a solid understanding of what distinguishes A+ copy from C- copyā¦
THEN USE A.I.
Seriously. Itās going to save you so much time and help you amplify the results you get for your clients.
But if youāre not there yetā¦
Please, please, please do not treat A.I. like the thing thatās going to set you apart from the rest and catapult youāre copywriting career. In fact, it couldnāt be farther from the truth.

Starting with everyoneās LEAST FAVORITE thing to doā¦.
#1 – Customer Research
Ugh, yep.
The step that everyone wants to SKIP because itās so tedious and time-consuming.Ā
Conducting the proper customer research is arguably THE most crucial step of crafting really, really high-quality copy.
There is a reason that the highest-paid copywriters in the world actually spend the majority of their time RESEARCHING, ideating, and brainstormingā¦
And the āwritingā portion of their job actually takes them the least amount of time.
Thatās because writing amazing copy CANNOT happen unless you first know everything there is to know about the product youāre writing for, the market, the competition, and most importantlyā¦
THE PERSON youāre speaking to in your messaging.
And this is where A.I. can come in handy and absolutely streamline this process ā especially if youāre writing in an unfamiliar niche.
You can use A.I. to create an ideal customer avatar so incredibly specific and detailed that youāll have literally everything you need to write rich, emotionally charged copy that speaks directly to your ideal customerās fears, frustrations, dreams, and aspirations…
Iām talking about the specifics not only of why they desire your product or service, I mean the:
- Deeper emotions underneath the surface that are actually driving them to actā¦
- Thoughts about what other people think of themā¦
- Internal battles they struggle withā¦
- And so much more.
Normally ā youād have to spend WEEKS digging through forums, interviewing prospects, and really digging through the trenches to get information this detailed.
But A.I. can do it for you in less than 5 minutes.
How epic is that?
Now the next thing that I love using A.I. for isā¦
#2 – Sales Positioning + Benefits
One of the hardest things to really get right ā even when you know EXACTLY who your ideal customer isā¦
Is coming up with the right positioning that makes buying your product or service a no-brainer.
Once you have your highly detailed buyer persona, you can actually USE THAT with A.I.toā¦
- ā Identify key selling points ā You can have A.I. make you a comprehensive list of the features and benefits that your ideal customer ACTUALLY cares about.Ā Not the things you think are the best features & benefits⦠but the things that actually make your buyers click and tick.Ā
- ā Identify your unique value proposition ā Your sales positioning should clearly communicate what sets your product apart and how it addresses your customers’ specific needs.Ā You can use prompts to combine your buyer persona information, WITH the key selling points, and have it create a SUPER persuasive value proposition for your product or service.Ā
- ā Identify objections ā No matter how epic your buyer persona is, or how enticing your selling points is⦠people are GOING to have objections. Itās human nature. But you can actually use A.I. to ANTICIPATE the objections or hesitations that your customers might have. AND use A.I. to help you address and smash them in your sales copy.

Now, having A.I. do all of these things is going to save you a TON of time ā Iām talking about weeks and weeks of time and research.
But remember ā as great as all this information is to haveā¦
Itās just the ābare bonesā of what you need.
Youāre not going to copy and paste this DIRECTLY word for word.
Youāre going to take the positioning and benefits mapped out for you and TURN IT INTO great copy.
Thatās why you really, really need to have a solid foundational understanding of what makes great copy.
Otherwise, you have all this AMAZING detail and information that will be utterly useless to you because you donāt know how to turn it into great copy.
So againā¦
Please make sure you know what youāre doing before you start using A.I. to help you with sales positioning and benefits.
Alright, the final thing that I use A.I. for all of the timeā¦
#3 – Writing Hooks & Headline
By far my favorite thing to use A.I. for is coming up with a strong, attention-grabbing hook and headline is one of the hardest parts of writing copy.Ā
Because, letās face it, it doesnāt matter if your copy is the most interesting, engaging, well-written masterpiece on the planet⦠if you canāt get your prospectās attention ā does it even matter?
80% of people DONāT read past the headline. This is why using a powerful hook in your headlines, subject lines, or at the beginning of a sales page or landing page is absolutely critical.
Itās what the reader sees first and determines whether or not theyāll open the email, read the next section, or click on an ad.
So arguably, writing killer hooks is the most important skill you can develop in copywriting.
And the cool thing about A.I. is it can literally spit out 50+ hooks and headlines in under a minute.
Now I will say that if you just say āWrite me a headline for XYZā… youāre probably not going to get very good outputā¦
This is where having pre-existing knowledge of what makes a strong hook is KEY when it comes to utilizing A.I.
