So the first question you may be wondering is: what sort of magical tool do we use to create these automated social media conversions…

Well, the tool we used is called ManyChat.

What Is ManyChat?

YOU decide what you want your ChatBot to say and do – whether it’s delivering free resources, promoting a sale, a masterclass, or whatever else.

Now, here at the Copy Posse, we use ManyChat exclusively for generating leads and driving sales through Instagram DMs and comments…

You can absolutely use ManyChat for Facebook Messenger, SMS, and email marketing – but this tutorial is going to focus exclusively on how we use it with Instagram. 

How To Use ManyChat

ManyChat operates by using keywords that trigger the chatbot to send an automated direct message. You can use it to promote or boost whatever metric is most important to your business… 

Maybe that’s downloading a free guide or resource – which adds them to your email list…

Or maybe it’s signing up for a free masterclass…

Maybe it’s a discount code you’re sharing for a sale…

Or whatever else! 

We primarily use it for generating new leads by sending our audience free guides and resources that they can sign up for via email… 

If you follow us on Instagram then you’ve probably met Benny the Posse Bot.

Benny sends out quick DMs and responses to those looking for links and resources!

For example…

Anyone who comments the keyword “hotoffer” will automatically receive a free copy of my hot offer checklist…

Or the word “sguide” will get you my free social media captions & CTAs guide…

Or the word “ultimate” will get you my email marketing cheatsheet… 

Or “pwords” to get a copy of 250+ power words to spruce up your copy…

These are all different sequences that we’ve set up through ManyChat to help us deliver free resources to our audience.

And when the recipient signs up to download their freebie, they input their email address, and voila – I have a brand new lead who just might turn into a paying customer. 

This has been a total game-changer in my business…

Before we started using ManyChat, my team and I would have to manually send out download links to everyone who requested them.

Which was a long and tedious process. 

ORRRR we’d use the outdated “link in bio” CTA which resulted in very little clicks and new leads.

But now we’re able to generate hundreds of leads a day…

My team is working LESS because they don’t have to manually send out the links to each person…

AND my community is getting what they want INSTANTLY.

Best Practices When Using ChatBots

Now just a few reminders, tips, and best practices to keep in mind when using chatbot – or ANY sort of automated tool or A.I. – in your business… 

Transparency is so important. 

You never want to lie to your audience or make them feel like they’re having a real conversation with you, when in fact, they are not. 

While it may seem OBVIOUS that I’m not in my DMs 24/7 responding to every single person in a milli-second, people don’t know that unless you tell them.

That’s why we always clearly identify our bot anytime an automated message is sent so our audience never feels “duped” or like they’re talking directly to me when they are now.

Because remember, once you lose your audience’s trust – that’s it. It’s gone. And it’ll very unlikely you’ll ever get it back… 

Some other tips to keep in mind:

  • Keep your messages short and to the point. People don’t want to read big blocks of text. When creating more complex automation with multiple messages, remember… simpler is always better!
  • The more complex, the more room there is for error. We learned this the hard way. The first time we use the ChatBot for a promotion we made it WAY TOO INTENSE. And the bot went rogue – sending out messages at the wrong time or sending repeat messages. It was too much and I’m sure it irritated many people in the Posse. 
  • Always give the option to talk to a human or opt out from receiving messages. Another lesson we learned the hard way! Nothing kills a potential sales conversation faster than someone who just wants to talk to a human and all they get is an automated response.
  • And finally, always give people the option to OPT OUT of these messages. Like an email list, you NEED to give people the ability to unsubscribe.

Think of your own experiences with ChatBots – there is nothing more frustrating than being stuck in an endless loop of bot responses that are NOT HELPFUL and going NOWHERE. Or when you’re stuck and can’t get out!!
