In my opinion, there is ONE THING you should absolutely NOT be using AI for.
Yet unfortunately, A LOT of people are doing it.
If youāre asking AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to write stories for you, I hate to break it to ya, but you’re actually slowing down your growth as a copywriter and marketer. And letting your creative brain cells die in the process.
In this post, Iām going to share with you:
- Why AI canāt make you a better storyteller unless youāre using it this way
- When you should use AI to help you write (and how)
- And 5 genius storytelling prompts to spark your creativity without sacrificing your voice or brilliance.
The AI Temptation
This whole post was actually inspired by a question that came up on a recent coaching call inside my SPARK Membership.
Iām paraphrasing here, but the question went something like this:
āHow can I get better at storytelling in my emails and also use AI to make it faster, easier, and more efficient?ā
Okay before I go on, I have to ask:
Have you ever asked AI to write you a story-based email?
Now, no shade here. I bet MOST marketers have, whether it was out of pure curiosity, simple laziness or a tight deadline, the AI temptation is real.
Now tell me, how did you feel about it?
Every single time I ask AI to generate copy for me, I am sorely, sorely, SORELY disappointed.

Sure itās cute ā but cutesy puns and childish anecdotes are not the kind of stories that MOVE your customers to take action.
Btw ā if youāve been around a while, you might know what āCopy Coopā is referring to here LOL I couldnāt help myself.
Drop me a comment below if you get the reference because youāre a Posse OG!
Anyway, crap storytelling like this is exactly why SO MANY marketers and copywriters are STUCK right now.
We know storytelling is important.
We want to tell better stories.
We also want to work smarter, not harder.
But we donāt actually understand HOW to use AI to help us become better marketers and storytellers.
Youāre using it the WRONG WAY.
At best ā itās wasting your time because you realize what it comes up with sucks and go on to write your own story email anyway.
Or you spend 10 minutes editing the soulless garbage it spits out, which honestly is harder than writing an email from scratch half the time.
OR AT WORST:
You donāt even recognize how bad it is and you pass that email to your client or send it to your list, completely jeopardizing your relationship and trust with your customers and clients.
Look, I love AI.
My team and I use it every single day.
We use and LOVE AI so much that we even created a whole AI Prompt Guide with 94+ juicy prompts to help with everything from improving your messaging to streamlining workflows.
Itās a game-changer for productivity and creativity.
BUT,
If youāre relying on AI to make you a better storyteller?
Thatās gonna be a big ānopeā from me.
How To Get Better At Storytelling
Storytelling is a muscle.
Itās something you build OVER TIME by practicing it, messing up, refining it, and doing it again.
And just like there are no shortcuts to building muscle in the gym.
There is no magic potion, pill, powder or robot thatāll make YOU a better storyteller.
Think of it this way:
You can use AI to warm up, stretch and brainstorm.
But the heavy lifting should be ALL YOU, baby.
YOUR storytelling.
YOUR voice.
YOUR experiences, euphemisms, inside jokes, and random thoughts.
So if you feel like your storytelling muscle is weak or underdeveloped, thereās really only one thing you can do.
TELL. MORE. STORIES.
Will they kind of suck at first? Definitely. But thatās how it is for EVERYBODY.
I say this all the time, but, First ā write bad copy. Then fix it!!
I constantly get messages from people saying my newsletter and emails are their FAVORITE to read and consume.

But I didnāt write emails like this in the beginning of my career, my emails werenāt even this good a few years ago.
Iām CONTINUALLY getting better at writing great emails because I am CONTINUING to write my own emails.
Iām not outsourcing my writing to ChatGPT or any other AI writing assistant.
But with that being said,
Iām not saying that you should never use AI when writing.
But the key is knowing where to draw the line.
Write this down:
Use AI to prompt your genius ā not to replace it.
So now letās talk about when you CAN use AI ā and how to use it.
5 Storytelling Prompts
AI is AMAZING for sparking ideas, organizing your thoughts, and getting you out of that dreaded āblank page paralysisā.
This is the #1 way I use AI personally.
My brainstorming bestie!!
So if you ever feel stuck writing a story-based email, here are five prompts you can try RIGHT NOW.
Write them down, or bookmark this post so you can come back to it later!
āļø Prompt #5:
āI want to write a story-based email on [topic]. Can you give me [X] hook ideas to help get me started?ā
āļø Prompt #4:
āI want to write an email connecting [topic] to [general idea, lesson, news article, quote, etc.]. Can you give me [X] ways I might string these ideas together?ā
āļø Prompt #3:
āI want to write an email based on [story idea]. How can I connect that story with [the topic of my email]?ā
āļø Prompt #2:
āIām trying to explain [marketing lesson or business tip]. Can you suggest a personal story or metaphor that could make this easier to understand?ā
