Now I’m about to break down my super simple email marketing strategy with you…
And you might actually be surprised just HOW SIMPLE this is.
I’ve been following this strategy since DAY ONE…
It’s a strategy that helped me to make over $80k on my very first launch ever – to a list of just 2,000 people…
It’s a strategy that I still follow to this day to execute 6-figure+ launches and promotions multiple times a year.
AND it’s a strategy that makes me money even when I’m NOT promoting anything to my list.
Yupppppp. You heard that right.
I’m going to tell you how to make money from your email list even when you’re not actively promoting something. Which I know might sound a little contradictory at first…
But ALL of the best email marketers in the world do this, and I’m about to show you how YOU can too…
And just how easy it really can be. Now…
Who Is This Email Marketing Strategy For?
Honestly, it can work for absolutely anyone with an email list or anyone who writes for or manages an email list.
It works no matter how small your list is, no matter how small your budget, no matter how small your team is, no matter what type of product or service you sell, no matter what industry, niche, or market you’re in…
And no matter how much you’ve been NEGLECTING your list up to this point.
I’m going to outline it all for you today. But first, I have BIG announcement to make…
I bundled up my best email monetization secrets and tips into an AWESOME Email Marketing Mini-Course called 365-Day Inbox Income.
It includes a detailed and thorough breakdown of this strategy.
PLUS PDF guides and frameworks to help you put all the steps you learn today into ACTION so you can make money from your list ALL YEAR LONG.
If that sounds good to you, you are definitely going to want to stick around to the end of this video because I’ll tell you how to get your hands on it for just $27…
But first, let’s break down my SIMPLE email marketing strategy.
It all starts with…
Step 1: Map Out Your Calendar
The first thing I do every year is sit down and take a bird’s eye view of the entire year and map out my email marketing calendar:
- WHEN are the launches + promotions I want to do this year?
- WHAT will I offer?
- And WHY will I offer it?
There are the 3 TYPES of promos we run each year, and we try to keep it pretty simple by following 3 basic frameworks:
- Online Event Promotion: With ~20 emails sent over a 2-week period
- 5-Day Pop-Up Promotion: With ~11 emails sent over a 5-day period
- 48-hour Flash Sale: With ~6 emails sent over a 2-day period
When I sit down and put these promotions into the calendar, I map out:
- When the promotion will run
- What the offer will be
- What the purpose or reason for the promotion is
- What the scarcity or incentive to buy will be
These are the components of a cohesive promotion plan or what I call a “campaign snapshot”.
In 365-Day Inbox Income, I go into more detail on each of these promotion types and give you simple frameworks that tell you exactly how many emails to send, when to send them, and what the main message or goal of each email should be.
Now, let’s talk about that very important reason WHY we plan everything out in out calendar in advance…
You might be thinking that sounds like a lot of work, why bother?
Why not just take each promotion as it comes?
Well, planning everything in advance has more than one benefit.
First, it gives everyone on the team an overview of everything we have coming up.
Everyone on my team can see our calendar.
This means the ads team knows when our next promotion is and can start planning their ad strategy.
It means my social team knows what is coming and can create relevant content.
And best of all – it means that NO ONE is ever caught off guard and we’re not scrambling at that last minute to piece together some Frankenstein promotion that feels sloppy.
Launches and promotions are already stressful enough.
But this one small thing goes a long way to making them less stressful for everyone.
But that’s not even the MOST IMPORTANT reason we plan everything out in advance.
The biggest benefit to doing this is because we want to…
Step 2: Create A Launch Runway
If you want to have a successful launch or promotion….
You HAVE to be prepping and priming your list weeks – and in some cases even months – before your launch date.
My friend and launch expert Stu McLaren, who frequently has multi-million-dollar launches, talks about the importance of this all the time.
He calls it a “launch runway”. He says that you need to have a 4-week MINIMUM launch runway.
So, what are you doing during this launch runway you ask?
You’re preparing your list to BUY. This can look a few different ways…
What I love to do is make sure I’m putting out tons of HELPFUL and USEFUL content to my audience that directly correlates to the main problem that the product I’m about to launch will solve.
So for example: If I’m about to launch a LIVE challenge helping my audience write an entire email sales campaign – start to finish… (ahem, ahem November, ahem).
In the weeks and months leading up to the day, I announce that challenge tickets are on sale, I’ll be putting a ton of helpful email marketing content (like this) to my audience…
My goal is not ONLY to help them in their email marketing RIGHT NOW, but to also keep the importance of email marketing front and center in their minds.
So they’ve been thinking about it for months. They might even already be seeing some results!
And by the time I make my announcement, they already KNOW why this challenge is so important and how it can help them push their email marketing initiatives even further.
This makes it easier for them to say YES.
So, having a launch runway is something we do with all our promotions.
And if you’re not planning your calendar out in advance, you’re going to have a really hard time pulling this off in a way that flows and feels natural.
If you need help planning your calendar, that is EXACTLY what 365-Day Inbox Income will help you do.
Okay, so we’ve mapped out our calendar…
We’ve scheduled at least 3 promotions for the year:
- An Online Event Campaign
- A 5-day Pop-Up Promo
- And a 48-hour Flash Sale
And we’ve created a launch runway of relevant and valuable content leading up to the promotions…
Next, it’s time to…
Step 3: Create A Monetization Path
What happens when we’re not actively promoting anything? Or priming the runway for an upcoming launch or promotions?
Well, this is where your regular content emails come in. We send 3 content emails a week…
- One on Wednesday.
- One on Friday.
- And one on Sunday.
Of course, you don’t have to email 3x a week like I do.
I know other people who send out an email every single day. And others who only email once a month.
It doesn’t really matter HOW OFTEN you send an email – what matters most is that you’re consistent with how often you send them.
So pick a frequency that YOU can stick to then put all of these dates into the calendar to keep yourself accountable to emailing at this frequency.
One of the coolest things about content emails is that they don’t JUST help you create a launch runway and prep your audience to buy during promotions…
They can ALSO make you money year-round without having to “sell” anything or make an offer.
My content emails alone brought in over $130,000 in revenue for my business last year.
Now you might be wondering, “Wait, how did these emails make you money if you didn’t even sell anything?”
Simple. Many of these emails, like the first 4 on this list, link to a piece of content…
In this case, a YouTube video, which then indirectly linked to an offer that was in the description of that video, without ever actually selling in the video.
Of course, this doesn’t have to be done with a YouTube video.
It could be done with a podcast, blog, or some other piece of FREE & VALUABLE content that you want to drive traffic to.
Some of the other emails on the list…
Like my Posseverse Newsletter, were simply long story-based emails that never actually directly offered anything but subtly linked to a few different programs.
In these cases, the value was delivered right there in the inbox.
So while your content emails shouldn’t directly sell, you still want to be strategic and let your audience know that you do, IN FACT, sell stuff.
This is what I mean by creating a monetization path, which usually looks like email → longer form content → offer…
And one of the easiest ways to create this strategic monetization path is to…
Step 4: Map Out Your Content Pillars
In other words, create long-form content based on content pillars you KNOW your audience is interested in.
Inside 365-Day Inbox Income, I take you through my ENTIRE Content Marketing Strategy…
And help you come up with your own content pillars and map out 125 potential monetization paths USING those pillars.
But for now, all you need to understand is that these are the main topics you will focus your long-form content on.
Which you’ll rotate through sharing inside your emails.
Of course, you want at least 3 of these pillars to directly lead to something you OFFER/SELL.
This is extremely important. Your content needs to be a bridge to your offers and take people deeper into your world.
For example, my 5 main content pillars are:
- Copywriting
- Marketing
- Branding
- Entrepreneurship/Lifestyle
- And Mindset.
Then, each of these main pillars will be broken down into even more specific sub-pillars…
For example, under the “copywriting” pillar, I might have more specific topics like…
- Headlines + Hooks
- Sales Copy
- Writing Tips + Critiques
- Social Media + Video Scripts
- And Conversion Tips
And then THOSE subpillars will be broken down into even more specific storytelling prompts.
Again, this is all broken down for you in detail inside 365-Day Inbox Income.
But each one of these subtopics and prompts can turn into a piece of long-form content – like YouTube videos, blog posts, podcasts, LinkedIn articles or free downloads/guides/worksheets…
That directs people to a relevant offer.
That way you can go deeper and deeper into your content pillars and pull your audience’s attention, desire, and interest forward to then lead them to an offer.
Of course, they can always buy on their own time, so there’s no pressure or urgency – you are giving full control to your customers to create their buying experience with you, which is really important for slower buyers who may need a bit more love before they go all the way…
And this is how you “sell” all year round in your content emails, without actually selling at all.
These emails are doing a very important job of delivering VALUE and keeping your list engaged, while also acting as the perfect way to get your list buying from you even when you’re not in a promotion.
It’s strategic. It’s simple. It works. Now, if you want to dive even deeper into my email marketing strategy..
