Weāre all constantly selling people on our ideas & opinionsā¦
The image we want to portray by the clothes we wear and the way we do our hairā¦
The type of person we want people to believe we are…
Where we should go out for dinnerā¦
What show we should watch tonight on Netflixā¦
What style of couch we should buyā¦
Where our next vacation should beā¦
And the list goes on and on.
Itās human nature ā we want people to see things the way we see themā¦
We want people to AGREE with us because we are RIGHT ALL THE TIME! Right?
We want people to believe the stories we tell ourselves about ourselvesā¦
We want people to pick up what weāre putting downā¦
And, yep, you guessed it, this involves a certain amount of āsellingā our ideas, opinions, and beliefs.
And the skill Iām talking about today will become your secret superpower to do just that.

- Selling is slimey ā I donāt want to feel like a used car salesmanā¦

What is a story you tell yourself about selling? Comment below and let me knowā¦
No matter what your sales story is, one thing is for sure, we love to make sales seem super scary and complexā¦
But honestlyā¦
Forget all that, because SELLING really only comes down to one thingā¦
Solving a problem.
The BEST and most seamless sales experiences are when youāre engaging in a conversation with someone who is genuinely interested in what you have to sayā¦
AND is genuinely interested in helping you solve your problem.
Did you catch that?
Because I just revealed the secret superpower to selling anythingā¦
Conversations.
The best sales experiences are simple conversationsā¦listening and respondingā¦
WITHOUT the expectation of compensation.
And THATāS WHY learning how to write conversational copy is key to selling anything.
Which sounds simple in theoryā¦
Because as I mentioned earlier, we do this ALL DAY EVERY DAY WITH EVERYONE IN OUR LIVESā¦
But then when it comes to business, youād be surprised how many marketers, copywriters, and business owners have a hard time getting this rightā¦
And they try too hard to āstick to a scriptā that honestly just feels inauthentic and gross.
Not to mention (and I talked about this a few weeks ago) this year, conversational marketing is a HUGE trend.
Now more than ever before customers are seeking out more personalized and conversational buying experiences and will avoid anything that feels like a sales trap.
So letās go through 3 tips to help you really understand WHAT conversational marketing actually isā¦
And how you can start applying it TODAY.
Tip #1 ā Chat With Your Bestie
Selling should always be, first and foremost, about relationship building.
Before you ask for a single penny, an email address, or even a ālike and followā…
You want your customers to feel genuinely seen and heard. You want them to feel a sense of belonging with you, your brand or your business.
And how do you do that?
Well, there are lots of ways! But one of the simplest to implement isā¦
Talk and write in the same way youād talk to your bestie.
Treat them like the REAL PEOPLE they areā¦
So many people get hung up on wanting to appear āprofessionalā and ālikeableā that they completely mask their entire personalityā¦
Or theyāll talk the way someone in their industry āshouldā talk…
Or they copy someone elseās way of communicating…
And as a result, their messaging and marketing is dry, boring, or worse ā completely inauthentic.
Remember that your audience, customers or clients can feel when something is scripted and forcedā¦
And they need to know, like or at the very least TRUST you and your brand before they commit to making a purchase.
In order for that to happen, you need to show them who you are. Really.
What are your values? Your quirks? Your sense of humor?
So if you curse sometimes, do that (itāll be okay, I promise!)
If you say āyāallā instead of āyou allā – do that!
If youāre weird – be weird!
If youāre funny – crack some jokes!
If youāre nerdy – own it loudly & proudly!
Because at the end of the day⦠THATāS what people really want.
Being YOU is your #1 sales superpower.
Alright now letās move on to tip #2ā¦
Tip #2 ā Read Everything Out Loud
This is SUCH an easy tip that is so often ignored and overlooked.
But itās so simple. Just read everything you write out loud.
Doing this one thing can go a long way in making your messaging sound friendly, casual, and super conversational.
Think about it this way: when youāre having a conversation with someone, how long can you talk without pausing to catch your breath?
Probably not very long.
A sentence or two ā MAX ā am I right?
So why then, would you type out huge paragraphs of text?
Long, run-on sentences and paragraphs that take up half the page are extremely overwhelming to your readers.
So remember to keep your sentences & paragraphs SHORT.
Donāt use fancy words you canāt personally pronounce or words that youād never use in real life.
Andā¦
Loosen the reins on your grammar ā just a little bit, okay?
Itās okay to emphasize a word or statement with well-placed boldingā¦
Itās okay to use ā…ā to help make a smoother transitionā¦
Itās okay to use the occasional uppercase text and misplaced dashā¦
Remember, being conversational is all about engaging with your reader, building trust, and writing in the way that you actually communicate.
And that is just NOT going to happen if youāre stressed out about having perfect grammar, structure and format.
Youāll end up coming across as overly formal.
And honestly, that is NOT a good look these daysā¦
I mean, think about itā¦
A.I. is everywhereā¦
People are so hyper-aware of its existence and VERY sensitive to feeling like theyāre being duped or lied toā¦
When youāre overly formal or stiff in your writing ā Iām just going to be honest and say ā most people are probably going to assume A.I. wrote it.
And theyāll be very unlikely to keep engaging with your content if they think a robot is behind it.
So PLEASE stop stressing so much about being āperfectā.
Allow yourself to relax a little bit and be less formal.
And finallyā¦
My forever favorite tip to help anyone get better at conversational marketingā¦
Tip #3 ā Storytelling
STORYTELLING!!!
The oldest form of communication on the planet.
Hundreds of years before the printing press, iMessage, voice memos, YouTube, or āgoing viralāā¦
We had stories.
They were our primary way of passing down information and knowledge about our culture and traditionsā¦
But we also used stories to connect and relate with one another.
And today, that element of storytelling is just as important as ever before.
When you utilize storytelling in your marketing, you not only capture (and keep) your audience’s attention more effectivelyā¦
But youāre also able to connect more intimately with them and relate more powerfully.
Listening to a story about the one time you saved your neighborās life, learned an interesting lesson, or solved a weird mystery is so much more powerful than reading a laundry list of facts and features and why they should buy your stuff.
Stories create curiosity.
And more importantly⦠they create relatability, authority, and trust with your prospect.
Which in turnā¦
Helps you sell more of your products and services ā naturally.
Now I have a whole blog where I break down 4 of my favorite storytelling methodsā¦
So if you want to learn more about this form of conversational marketing, go check it out.
And if you want to learn how to apply everything you learned today into your businessā¦
